Lib Dems: Suffolk County Council still doing too little on business mileage.

Yesterday at Suffolk County Councils Resources, Finance and Performance Scrutiny Committee Councillors agreed to bring business mileage back to the committee for scrutiny 3 years after Councillor Andrew Cann first raised the issue.

Cllr Andrew Cann Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Finance and Resources said: "3 years ago the County Council was forced to change its policy from increasing business mileage to reducing business mileage thanks to the excellent work of the Resources and Finance Scrutiny Committee.

The Committee has continued to press for the enforcement of this policy but to little effect with mileage stagnating just under the 20 million miles per year level. I know that one department, Environment and Transport, takes the issue seriously but other departments pay little attention to this target.

Whilst backbench councillors of all political persuasions support this policy there is still little sign that the leadership of the County pays any heed to it's own policy. If Suffolk is serious about being 'The Greenest County' it needs to preach less and do more. I look forward to debating with fellow councillors this matter again. Surely we cannot go 4 years without action?"
