Liberal Democrats victorious in Woodbridge

Liberal Democrats are celebrating today after snatching a seat from the Conservatives in Woodbridge. Caroline Page won the seat comfortably in a surprise victory over former Conservative County Councillor Nigel Barratt.

Ms Page said, "I am delighted that the people of Woodbridge have put their trust in me. It was clear during the campaign that local people were identifying with the issues we highlighted. For example I am a regular user of local bus services, and I have seen a marked deterioration in recent years. Some of the roads in the town are in a shocking state and I feel that Woodbridge has been neglected. I look forward to fighting for the town and its services."

Liberal Democrat group leader at Suffolk County Council, Kathy Pollard added, "I am delighted to welcome Caroline to the team. It's clear that people are disillusioned with the Conservative run County Council. They can't understand why, at a time when there is an economic downturn, Conservatives are continuing to recruit people at what they see as ridiculously high salaries. The Tories at County Hall are completely out of touch with ordinary people."
