Liberal Democrats on Suffolk County Council have announced their front bench team, now that they are the official opposition on the council. Their line up is:
Leader: Kathy Pollard
Deputy Leader: David Wood
Children and Young People: Penny Otton
Adult Care Service: Inga Lockington
Finance and Performance: Andrew Cann
Roads and Transport: Caroline Page
Environment and Waste: John Field
Public Protection: David Wood
Health: Kathy Pollard
Customer Service and Diversity: Jane Chambers
Commenting on the appointments Group Leader Kathy Pollard said "We have a very strong frontbench team, who bring a considerable amount of expertise to their role. We look forward to holding the Conservative administration to account on a number of controversial issues including the closure of Middle Schools, falling educational standards and the increase in the number of serious road accidents in the County, as well as the worst potholes the public has seen in living memory."
Deputy Leader, Dave Wood added "We were somewhat taken aback by the appointment of the new Cabinet, with two new portfolios. The Greenest County portfolio should surely be a theme running through every department's responsibilities and should be within the remit of Environment. We wonder if the Conservatives were just trying to keep their new Ipswich councillors happy by creating a new role just for them."
