The majority of Heavy Goods Vehicles are to be banned from Needham Market High Street, following a decision by Suffolk County Council today. Vehicles delivering to businesses in the town will be unaffected.
Speaking about the decision, local County Councillor Julia Truelove said, "I am delighted with the decision today. For twenty seven years the people of Needham Market have been trying to get this issue addressed. Success has been achieved because of the sustained efforts of District Councillors Wendy Marchant and Mike Norris and the Town Council, as well as local residents and businesses and Needham Market Society."
District Councillor Wendy Marchant commented, "This will improve the whole atmosphere in the High Street and will provide a boost to the local economy as well as helping to preserve the 96 listed buildings. Shoppers and tourists will notice a huge difference."
District Councillor Mike Norris added, "This will make a major difference to local residents and businesses. It's been a real team effort, but I would particularly like to thank Julia Truelove for her persistence on our behalf."
