Liberal Democrats at Suffolk County Council expressed dismay at the news that further cuts are being planned to the County's bus services. The news came as the County Council's Conservative Administration released its budget for 2008-2009.
The budget includes cuts of nearly a million pounds from bus subsidies, which are likely to target rural bus routes.
Speaking about the cuts, Liberal Democrat Group Leader, Cllr Kathy Pollard said, "The cuts to bus services in previous years have already had a huge effect on communities in Suffolk, especially in rural areas. These cuts are combined with the cuts to school transport for those studying A levels, which will have a detrimental effect on education in Suffolk.
Taken together these cuts make a mockery of Conservative claims to be trying to create the greenest county. These moves will either force people to use cars for transport or leave people stranded, especially those at either end of the age spectrum."
